Many people are familiar with the BibleProject videos. Since their launch in 2014, their YouTube channel has grown to nearly 2 million subscribers and over 100 million views.
One series of videos, called “How to Read the Bible,” has been especially helpful to me for learning about the literary genres of Scripture. They write, “While the Bible is one unified story, it cannot all be read in the same way.”
You and I have different expectations reading a novel versus reading a newspaper. We read a poem differently than a textbook or a movie review. The type of literature determines the way it should be read and understood. Without this idea in mind, it’s easy to misunderstand or misapply the what the writers of the Bible are saying. That’s where this series can help.
In 18 short videos (each one is around 5-6 minutes long), BibleProject walks you through the major types of literature found in the Bible and how knowing the literary genre is the key to properly understanding the meaning of a text.
The videos are super engaging and I hope they help you enjoy the Bible more!
